Wrigley's success at Brands Hatch 2016 season opener
The 2016 Ginetta Supercup season began at Brands Hatch on the 2nd-3rd April and it was a strong start for Tom Wrigley who secured 2nd in qualifying with less than 0.1 seconds off pole position.
Tom lined up on the front row for race one and after a good start, held station in 2nd place and was able to pressure Jamie Orton until the end of the race, whilst pulling away convincingly from the rest of the field.
The finishing position from race 1 determined the grid for race 2 and after a great start, Wrigley took the lead into turn one and was never headed, despite a challenge from Orton behind when Tom was the first to meet back-markers. Tom took his first lights to flag victory in the Supercup from a non-reverse grid and picked up his second trophy of the weekend.
Race 3 saw the top four positions reversed which is where a confident Wrigley started the final race of the weekend. After a difficult start he slipped to 7th but fought back to 5th, followed by a fantastic move up the inside into Paddock Hill past Orton for 4th before making a challenge on the top 3. Tom performed a carbon copy of his earlier move to pass Somerfield into 3rd, whilst Boardly span out of the lead leaving Tom in 2nd and ready to attack Burns who was leading. Sadly a red flag ended the race prematurely and per the count-back rule, left Tom in 3rd place.
After a great first round, Tom has an 8 point lead in the championship and Rob Boston Racing look forward to the next meeting at Donington Park on the 16th-17th April.
