Victory at Spa Francorchamps
Rob Boston Racing have returned from a great weekend at Spa Francorchamps, widely thought to be one of the best racing tracks in the world!
Freddie Hetherington started the weekend strong and set the fastest lap in production class practice. The hot weather continued into qualifying and the team produced impressive results. Freddie turned his pace into 2nd, Ryan Savage set 3rd quickest despite barrier contact at Pouhon trying to set the pole lap. David Stead set 6th fastest and Adam Gore was the second quickest overall in his V6 Exige.
The one hour endurance race commenced on Saturday morning with plenty riding on the result which would count twice - for both the Cup and Trophy championships. Stead, Hetherington and Savage all started well but Adam suffered behind a poor start from Alex Reed just in front. A couple of laps in and the safety car was deployed for oil and coolant on track and a long and frustrating stretch followed. The pit window opened and a frantic dash of cars ensued, causing a chaotic pit lane. Racing continued without further interruption but pit stop infringements altered the standings as final finishing positions were amended. Freddie finished in 2nd place but was promoted to pole position - his first Lotus win with Rob Boston Racing! Ryan was caught on the last corner of the last lap by the Ratcliff and Dunn car and finished in 4th, yet was promoted to 3rd as the car of Little and Bentley was penalised. David once again showed strong and improving pace and survived a three abreast charge on the run up to La Source, but suffered from some small errors and a busy pit lane and claimed a 9th place production finish. Adam Gore suffered huge disappointment as gear box problems took away his pole challenge and he achieved 4th in class and 6th overall. After a short summer break, we will be continuing the championship fight at Brands Hatch on 15th/16th August for the Lotus Festival.
