Lotus Cup UK and Elise Trophy Donington Park
Rob Boston Racing returned to Donington Park for the second meeting of the season for the Lotus Cup UK and Lotus Elise Trophy.
Saturday saw very changeable weather conditions and only Alex Reed predicted the downpour on the very first lap and changed to wet tyres during the green flag lap. Luck wasn't on Adam Gore's side as the safety car was deployed just moments after he completed his mandatory pit stop which saw Alex Reed gain the advantage once more as he pitted under safety car and changed to dry tyres, gaining almost a one lap advantage. On a drying track, Gore quickly set the fastest lap and started work reducing the gap between himself and the pole man. Despite reducing the gap considerably each lap, it was impossible to catch up in the remaining time and finished 2nd overall and the fastest man on track.
Sunday saw settled, warm weather for the Elise Trophy races and a large grid provided exciting racing. Ryan Savage was keen to continue his winning performance from Snetterton but a knock and a harsh penalty demoted him to 6th place in race one. From the reverse grid, Ryan stormed through the pack and dominated race two, beating his rivals Denman, Mazza and Rowbottom by a considerable margain and claiming his second win of the season! Newcomer to RBR Freddie Hetherington came so close to podium finishes and claimed 4th place finishes in both - certainly one to watch for Rockingham. Returning for a second season, David Stead claimed a confident 5th place in race one and novice driver Peter Mansfield had an impressive weekend with improving pace and confidence and is setting his sights on top ten finishes by Oulton Park.
